Director, Production & Operations
Scripps Networks Interactive, the leader in lifestyle media with top brands such as HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for an Director of Production and Operations, Brand Creative to join our New York team.
The Director of Production and Operations will be responsible for managing all on-going project management/production activities in support of Food Network and Cooking Channel marketing efforts and for developing and overseeing operational processes aimed at creating synergy between Brand Creative and all other key areas of the business.
What you will be doing:
o Develop, enhance and implement logistical, budgetary, staffing and scheduling scenarios to support business and promotional priorities.
o Manage the physical production of all on-air promotions, special/branded projects, off-air print initiatives, Upfront presentation tapes and related production shooting.
o Oversee on-set production personnel to ensure best-in-class productions, as well as the efficient use of time and resources.
o Work closely with the creative executive team to help execute their project visions from project initiation through completion – which includes scheduling post-production time, arranging shoots, securing raw assets, etc.
o Develop, manage and maintain a transparent financial model for both channels that ensures budget accuracy, as well as clear and regular financial reporting. Lead the collaboration in establishing priorities for the budgets in concert with the creative executive team.
o Lead production team for complex revenue-generating projects such as Upfront and integrated promotional campaigns. Manage needs of multiple departments with varying objectives. Liaise between sales clients, vendors, Marketing, Programming, Ad Sales, Digital, and Affiliate teams to ensure a successful execution for all stakeholders. Draft and provide project budget estimates when requested for projects in both ideation and activation phases.
o Manage the effective usage of in-house production resources, including internal edit and sound mixing suites and studio spaces.
o Establish and nurture relationships with outside production partners. Negotiate and close large and small scale deals with production and post-production companies, talent agencies/reps and other third party providers/managers (interfacing with finance and legal as needed).
o Serve as a key liaison with corporate finance and legal on Brand Creative departmental issues including budgets, contracts, rights and clearances.
o Lead the Production Management team. Manage and develop staff (currently includes three production managers, two coordinators, three staff production assistants, plus other freelancers).
o Develop and refine innovative production processes with the growth of new businesses and delivery methods.
o Ensure an innovative, positive and solution-oriented environment aimed at always finding a way to support great ideas that will move the brand and business forward.
o Develop and manage business critical production management and scheduling systems.
o Liaise with the international team to ensure international regions receive timely production support and requested materials.
*This position will require frequent travel, both domestic and international.
What you need to have:
o Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
o A minimum of 7 years of experience in on and off-air creative marketing production across multiple platforms
It’s a plus if you have:
o Bachelors Degree in Communications from an accredited institution
o 10+ years experience in marketing production across multiple platforms
o Excellent management, leadership and communication skills
o In-depth experience overseeing departmental budgets
o Deep understanding of all facets/phases of broadcast production (both clip and shoot spots) including briefing, concepting, scripting, pitching, final cut/avid editing, online, VFX, sound design, music, VO, mixing and any and all other areas of pre and post production
o Have a strong command of digital, motion graphics, print and collateral production
o Have a strong understanding of live-action production and the ability to manage on-set production personnel
o Experience working with celebrity talent in terms of logistical management and deal making
o Understanding of promo scheduling, tagging and asset delivery
o Understand deeply the mechanics and architecture of broadcast television package including IDs, billboards, lower thirds, flexi bumpers, bugs, etc.
o Ability to identify and resolve moderately complex technical, operational and organizational problems
o Strong negotiation skills
o Strong organizational skills with the ability to act independently and responsibly
o Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment
o Ability to develop systems and processes from the ground up, communicate those systems outwardly, and win support from colleagues and supervisors as needed
o Polished written and verbal communication skills
o Proficient working with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, MS Outlook
o Experience working with Filemaker Pro and Adobe Acrobat Pro a plus
o Full-time position (40 hours/week) with competitive compensation package
