Positions in this class are assigned to Organization restaurants which provide table service to customers; assists food servers and other bus persons in serving the customers in a prompt and efficient manner; and sets up special parties and events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  •  Performs general table service/clean-up at table service restaurants
  • Stocks dining area with proper dishes and silverware
  • Makes certain each table is correctly set up
  • Moves tables, chairs and supplies for catered events
  • Keeps assigned areas clean, orderly, and in a safe condition
  • Politely answers customers’ questions regarding the Organization

Delivery Helper

Positions in this class perform routinely difficult warehousing and delivery duties in support of the food service operations at the Zoo or Safari Park.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Loads supplies on truck or cart
  • Delivers food stuff and supplies to food stands within the Zoo or Safari Park
  • Obtains stock from food stands for storage in warehouse
  • Keeps warehouse areas and shelves in clean and orderly condition
  • Keeps records of supplies delivered
  • Assists in setting-up and stocking food stands
  • Operates trucks and forklifts

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Prepares food stuff and supply orders for food stands
  • Moves heavy objects
  • Operates trucks and forklifts in the loading and moving of supplies and equipment

Food Server

The Food Server performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction.  The Food Server under general supervision performs a variety of moderately difficult duties in greeting and taking orders from restaurant guests, serving guests, keeping assigned tables and areas clean and orderly.  This position reports to the Lead Food Server, Manager and Supervisor.
Positions in this class are assigned to a restaurant which provides guests with table service; takes customers’ orders and provides service; assist all other front-of-the house employees to create a congenial and efficient facility that is attractive to guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Welcomes and greets guests
  • Takes and serves food and beverages orders tableside
  • Prepares certain menu items including salads, appetizers and desserts
  • Advises customers’ regarding menu items
  • Make Customer Service a top priority
  • Politely and professionally answers guests’ questions regarding the Zoo or Safari Park
  • Professionally handle difficult situations with employees and guests
  • Keeps assigned areas clean, orderly and in a safe condition

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Pre-buses tables
  • Stocks supplies and sets up tables for special events Makes beverages, including coffee, iced tea and specialty coffee drinks
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Works effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Assists with period end inventory as needed
  • Communicates with management staff on a daily basis
  • Adheres to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health standards
  • Maintains inventory and stock rotation

The Arborist performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects San Diego Zoo Global’s mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction.  The Arborist under general supervision performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work, planting, transplanting, trimming, felling, and pruning of the organizations-owned trees and shrubbery and other sites as directed. This position reports to the Lead Arborist/Supervisor/Manager. This is a skilled, journey-level class, and performs tasks of moderate difficulty in tree trimming by working from elevated positions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Trims, shapes, and/or prunes trees
  • Strips, fells and cuts trees into logs for disposal
  • Plants and transplants trees
  • Stakes, irrigates and cultivates trees
  • Operates cutting tools
  • Operates chipper
  • Sharpens and maintains tools
  • Services and maintains equipment
  • Operates a truck in transporting tools, equipment and debris
  • Operates power-driven hydraulic boom
  • Works from hydraulic boom in trimming, shaping and pruning trees
  • Collects browse forage from heights over 12 feet and delivers them to animal compounds

  • Works from various heights and trims, shapes, or prunes trees to cut away branches
  • Operates cutting tools such as axes, clippers or chain saws
  • Typically uses rigging such as ropes, lines, hardware, and work crew
  • Typically uses various tree trimming tools such as pruners, pole saws, loppers and brush chipper, chain saws
  • Assists in removing whole trees and tree stumps from the ground
  • Assists other tree trimming personnel from the ground
