Store Entry Level (Cashiering, Inventory, Bookselling/Sections)
This is the entry-level position for all Powell’s retail stores and may work in one or more departments during the trial service period. In all departments, an important focus of everyone’s work is to engage our customers and to ensure we provide the highest quality customer service. As employees become familiar with various duties, they are assigned more complex tasks and responsibilities. Individuals in this level are expected to quickly increase competence as they gain experience with daily store operations. Reports to Department Supervisor.
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Demonstrated retail experience, book sales or restaurant experience preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent communication / interpersonal skills.
- Love of working with customers in a retail environment.
- Basic business computer literacy.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Good judgment and problem solving skills.
- Love of books and reading.
- PDX employees must be able to pass a ten-year background check with Port of Portland and acquire and maintain a security badge for PDX.
- Physical requirements – Group A (Cashiering/Bookselling/Specialized Department); Group U (Inventory).
