Production Technician

A Production Technician will be responsible for: Peer to Peer On the Job Training of Associates; Adherence to Production Schedule; Operation, Monitoring & Improving of Manufacturing Processes; Maintaining Daily Visual Management Boards; Preventative Maintenance of Manufacturing Equipment; Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution of Manufacturing Equipment; Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

This person will work with little supervision and must be capable of working independently or in a team environment, as the situation dictates. Additionally, this person will be expected to effectively and efficiently communicate (verbal and written) with personnel at all levels within the organization in order to obtain/disseminate necessary information to run and maintain the assigned manufacturing area. Essential Job Functions include:

Training of Associates:

  • Assist employees in locating and using Standard Work Instructions (SWI) and controlled training documents (SmartSolve) to assist manager with proper training of all new employees.
  • Prepare training documents for Manager and Process Owner sign off
  • Provide coaching and feedback on associates’ training progress.

Production Scheduling & Distribution of Work Assignments:

  • Clearly communicate with outgoing and incoming shift Production Tech and/or Operator III to ensure all relevant information is provided to ensure seamless continuity of manufacturing.
  • Maintain and adjust production schedule, as directed, to ensure on-time delivery of products to meet customer demand and to ensure execution of the Level Load process.
  • Support Manager in assigning employees to manufacturing processes based on production needs and level of experience of available employees, i.e. to achieve highest level of productivity as required.
  • Schedule work assignments, breaks, lunches to ensure adequate staffing to meet production requirements.
  • Participate in weekly scheduling review meeting.

Operation, Monitoring & Improving of Manufacturing Processes:

  • As required, set-up, start-up and operation of manufacturing processes, using adherence to SWIs, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and current Good Documentation Practices (cGDP), until acceptable finished product is realized.
  • Monitor Critical-to-Quality (CTQs) media metrics, e.g. Delta-P, KL, Thickness, Basis Weight, etc. through Statistical Process Control (SPC) to ensure the highest quality media possible.
  • When appropriate, perform adjustments to the process using formally documented and approved Corrective Methods (CMs).
  • Review scrap and downtime data sheets at the end of the shift to ensure accurate and timely reporting of downtime and scrap, additionally complete Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) documentation.
  • Escalate any manufacturing process issues in a timely manner to minimize scrap and downtime.
  • Utilize company data systems, e.g. SAP, MMIS, MVP, etc.
  • Contribute to improving manufacturing processes through solution-based ideation for continuous improvements.
  • Provide support to Engineers in Tech Plans
  • Provide support for R&D runs and scale-ups

Maintaining Daily Visual Management Boards (VMB):

  • On a shift-by-shift basis, complete daily updates to the area specific VMB for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity (SQDIP) to ensure effective communication of current manufacturing line status.
  • Ensure proper documentation and timely completion of assigned temporary counter measures.

Preventative Maintenance of Manufacturing Equipment:

  • Perform and document basic maintenance to include assembly, disassembly, and cleaning of mechanical components of manufacturing equipment, i.e. maintain equipment in “as-new” condition.
  • Plan, perform, and document preventative maintenance and condition monitoring of assigned equipment, including the use of the MVP system.
  • Perform predictive maintenance with the use of electrical meters, vibration analysis tools, strobe lights, infrared thermometer, etc. and evaluate this information to determine any underlying equipment problems, thus reducing downtime.
  • Develop and maintain area specific critical equipment spares list and work with the maintenance department in maintaining proper storeroom levels of these parts and tooling necessary for the operation of the assigned line.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution of Manufacturing Equipment:

  • Ensure a safe working environment through application of HazMat Handling and GMP practices.
  • Identify process and equipment problems to determine root cause of problem and implement appropriate corrective action(s).
  • Troubleshoot and repair all equipment breakdowns during the shift; this does not include high voltage equipment or PLC related breakdowns.
  • Escalate any equipment issues in a timely manner to minimize scrap and downtime.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) with 5 years manufacturing experience, including maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment; or Associates degree in a technical (mechanical) discipline with 2 years manufacturing experience, including maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment. Ability to use a computer and applicable software, e.g. Microsoft Office, SAP, MMIS, MVP, etc. Demonstrated maintenance troubleshooting and mechanical ability. Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, product or process problems and identify and fix root cause. Ability to use basic mathematics to quantify scrap in various units of measure ,e.g. Linear Feet, Sq. Feet, etc. and downtime in minutes. Ability to identify and correct documentation that is inconsistent with current quality system. The ability to lift 50lbs. As required, the ability to climb ladders and perform elevated work using a man lift or harness. As required, the ability to safely work with certain solvents, e.g. IPA, DMAC and other common substances. Must be able to work overtime with little or no notice. Requires to be screened for 20/30 vision (per SWI34000VSP). As required, must be able to wear a respirator which consists of passing a medical survey, pulmonary function test and be medically cleared by a physician. Basic knowledge of GMP and cGDP – Preferred. Basic of knowledge of SPC – Preferred. Basic understanding of structured problem solving approaches, e.g. PSP – Preferred .
