Lab Manager: The primary purpose of the Stable Isotope Lab Manager position is to oversee, operate, and maintain the Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometers and flow injection ion analysis systems with the associated data servers in the Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. In addition to acting as a regional analytical lab, the lab provides analytical support to the RiverNet Program. The Rivernet Program monitors water quality in the Neuse and Cape Fear River basins with in situ instruments at remote locations. The successful candidate will have to work with different researchers and student groups, train graduate and undergraduate students in lab procedures, and maintain safety standards. The lab manager will have experience and be able to operate, calibrate and repair analytical equipment in the lab and in the field including mass spectrometers, gas chromatographs, sondes, UV nitrate analyzers, and associated computer systems and data loggers. The lab manager will maintain the lab and remote data and web servers and provide critical support of field operations. This includes providing off campus support of field teams including operating 4 wheel drive trucks, small boats and routine sampling and surveying operations. No overnight stays are required, but some time away from campus is necessary.
Facilities Maintenance Technician: As the largest department within the Facilities Division, Facilities Operations services the University’s 10 million square feet of teaching, research and administrative space and 2,440 acres of Ground and Transportation infrastructure. Using 803 budgeted positions and an annual budget of $57,000,000, Facilities Operations provides maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail and motor pool services for most of the University.
Essential Job Duties
This is a highly skilled worker with proficiency in the maintenance, repair and operation of heating, cooling, steam/hot water boilers and boiler auxiliary equipment in the maintenance service zone. This position will maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems in addition to minor plumbing/piping installations. Applicant should be familiar with electrical systems up to 600 vac and be knowledgeable of the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of secondary electrical systems, equipment and fixtures; i.e., conduit wire, electrical panels, breakers, switch gear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, light fixtures, ballast, switches, receptacles, control system faults and correct, repair/adjust; replace switches, receptacles control system faults and correct, repair/adjust; replace temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers and sensors; repair/adjust/replace pneumatic control valves and regulators; preventative maintenance on refrigerator/air conditioning equipment per manufacturer’s instructions. This position will also diagnose/troubleshoot/repair boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, strainers, pressure reducing stations; piping, insulation, air compressors, water softeners and other equipment for generating/controlling steam which requires pipe fitting and other skills.
Technology Support Technician: The purpose of the Department of Registration and Records is to provide academic services to current and former students, faculty, staff and the public while maintaining the security and integrity of the university’s academic data. The department serves as the data steward for all academic data and is therefore responsible for developing efficient and effective systems for collection, storage, update and distribution of data affecting all of the University’s academic functions.
