Housing For Health Housing Stabilizer

We are seeking a full-time Housing for Health Housing Stabilizer to provide housing placement and individualized case management services to homeless women enrolled in the Housing for Health program supported by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS). The Housing for Health program, serves individuals who have experienced long-term homelessness, history of trauma, and have long-standing health and mental health issues. The Housing for Health Housing Stabilizer will engage women in services, establish housing linkages and placement, and provide individualized case management using the Housing First and Intensive Case Management model. This position is part of an interdisciplinary team of staff to provide field- based services throughout Los Angeles County. As a Housing Stabilizer, this position will help women achieve housing stability and establish enduring support systems.


  • Provide individualized field- based Intensive Case Management Services to participants; create individual service plans and bio-psycho-social assessments every 3 months, including goals to ensure housing stability
  • Research and provide necessary resources and referrals
  • Using the Housing First model, assist participants in securing housing, basic needs, medical and mental health services including substance abuse treatment when necessary, job training access, and public benefits where eligible
  • Assist newly housed clients in familiarizing and connecting with community resources including but not limited to, local grocery stores, entertainment, transportation, health care and social services
  • Work to effectively meet participants needs and resolve individual barriers through follow-up , advocacy and collaboration with DWC staff and other community service providers
  • Process PHA (Public Housing Authorities) voucher applications and maintain collaborative relationships with Los Angeles PHAs
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each participant
  • Collaborate with hospital and clinic settings to ensure continuity of care is developed for participants of the program
  • Advocate for best practices to ensure that participants retain housing, increase life skills, improve health and mental health
  • Participate in weekly individual and group supervision, in addition to other agency meetings and trainings as required
  • Participate in quarterly peer chart reviews by providing and responding to colleague feedback and making necessary corrections in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain relationships with participants, staff and local service providers, participate in community meetings pertaining to services benefiting participants, and serve as a representative of DWC at community events
  • Effective crisis management skills and conflict resolutions skills
  • Be an ambassador of DWC and its mission and values by participating in community meetings/events
  • Provide weekly and monthly written reports to the Housing for Health Program and additional reports as assigned

  • Bachelors degree in social work or related field, preferred; masters degree a plus
  • Minimum one year experience as a case manager with similar population with Bachelors degree OR two years of case management experience with a similar population
  • Strong knowledge of the complexity of poverty and womens homelessness, mental illness, trauma, substance abuse, health issues, and older adults;
  • Familiarity with Housing First model, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction and other evidence-based practices, preferred
  • Comfort working with homeless populations and high utilizers of health and mental health services
  • HMIS experience preferred, with knowledge of data collection tools to track participant progress
  • Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities with data management responsibilities
  • Strong administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
  • Criminal background check and clearance required
  • Ability to be flexible with hours when needed
  • Current valid California state drivers license, insurance, and vehicle with good driving record
  • Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English a plus.

Director of Communications & Public Affairs

The Director of Communications and Public Affairs is responsible for developing, implementing, and facilitating the Downtown Women’s Centers communications, marketing, public affairs, and public relations strategies. The Director will set and guide the strategy for all external and internal communications, including overseeing the Centers website and social media channels, earned media efforts, and advocacy activities to consistently promote the Downtown Women’s Center mission. The Director will ensure the Downtown Women’s Center is seen as the primary leader, advocate, and conduit of knowledge and expertise related to women and homelessness within the organizations diverse, national network and constituent base. The Director will work closely with marketing functions of the organization, the executive leadership team, and Board committee members as partners on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions

  1. Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop communications strategies that will broaden programmatic reach and deepen impact.
  2. Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications and public affairs plan across the organizations audiences, in collaboration with the Downtown Women’s Centers Communication and Policy Board committee and the CEO.
  3. Develop and refine the Downtown Women’s Centers core messages to ensure organizational consistency.
  4. Serve as the executive editor for the organizations website, and oversee online strategy that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action.
  5. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and the Downtown Women’s Center website.
  6. Coordinates social media strategy and ensure new information (article links, stories, and events) are posted regularly.
  7. Oversee organizational response to inquiries about the Center, including press inquiries and requests to support or oppose policy issues.
  8. Lead and support collateral materials and campaigns for all fund development activities.
  9. Identify significant media and public policy issues that are relevant to the Downtown Women’s Center, and create and implement plans to leverage them.
  10. In collaboration with the Chief Innovation Officer, develop and advance productive relationships with elected officials, governmental and non-governmental agencies, media, community organizations, and other key stakeholders.
  11. Identify opportunities for positive media coverage, anticipate emerging issues and concerns, and develop appropriate communications.
  12. Proactively manage and coordinate all media outreach and media events, including providing on-site support for crisis situations.
  13. Set up and maintain ongoing evaluation and analytics for communications activities, including digital and earned media.
  14. Oversee the Advocates Program in collaboration with the Communications Coordinator and Programs team.
  15. Mentor, supervise and support the Communications Coordinator and Policy Coordinator
  16. Serve as staff liaison to the Communications and Policy Board Committee.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-Time position. Days and hours of work are Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM, with occasional weekends and evening hours.

Required Education and Experience

Community Engagement Coordinator

Do you believe volunteerism is a transformative force for good? The Community Engagement Coordinator is a passionate relationship builder who will build DWCs culture of volunteerism as a service enterprise. This position identifies volunteer opportunities throughout the agency and oversees our group volunteers and collaborates across all departments to ensure the needs of the Center are being met. Reporting directly to the Community Engagement & Volunteer Manager, this position works in close collaboration with the Development Coordinator, Inventory & Donations Coordinator and the entire Development Department to effectively secure resources for DWC.

Essential Functions

  • Manage all logistics for groups (corporations, schools, universities, religious institutions and others) to participate on either one-time or reoccurring volunteer opportunities; including: days of service, cooking clubs, donation sorting, snack pack and hygiene kit assembly, and donation drives to build and maintain relations
  • Work with DWC staff to identify volunteer needs, create new volunteer opportunities for groups and continuously work to improve the overall volunteer program and to develop strategies for fostering multi-faceted relationships with DWC supporters
  • Update volunteer needs and post activities on a monthly basis; working to ensure all volunteer opportunities are filled. Work with the Communications team to promote volunteer opportunities and spotlight group volunteers
  • Provide stories and testimonials to the Communications team for enhancing digital content
  • Collect and report group volunteer data; including service hours, volunteer activities and donations to track and monitor volunteer engagement within the donor database
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement and Volunteer Manager
  • Assist with conducting research on individuals, corporations, and foundations for prospect activity and maintain integrity of the data
  • Work with group volunteers and kitchen staff to ensure cooking club shifts are covered and menu items are revolving
  • Assist with large scale annual volunteer opportunities; including the Homeless Count, Needs Assessment and Advocacy opportunities that require collaboration with partnering agencies and government entities
  • Work with Events Manager, Development Coordinator and Community Engagement & Volunteer Manager to identify overlap with individual and corporate volunteers; strategize ways to engage and elevate volunteers to donors
  • Assist with soliciting for in-kind donations as requested by DWC Staff
  • Assist with volunteer appreciation opportunities and implement best practices for volunteer retention
  • Provide support to Volunteer Supervisors, provide on-going training and support as-needed
  • Provide presentations, host tours and assist with volunteer orientations and training (as needed) to educate supporters on womens homelessness and DWCs approach

Hygiene Program Attendant FT: Under general supervision, the Hygiene Program Attendant is responsible for the proper cleaning and maintenance of DWC’s restroom and shower facilities in accordance with DWC’s policies and procedures. This position will be working around high noise levels and a vulnerable population. The incumbent must be able to remain focused on the job while dealing with interruptions from participants and/or other employee contact.

Donations and Inventory Associate FT: Under general supervision, the Downtown Women’s Center Donations and Inventory Associate is a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented employee. This position will work as part of a team of creative and innovative staff, volunteers and participants in the Downtown Women’s Center Day Center who will work closely with all DWC departments. This employee will oversee and coordinate all physical In-kind donations with the goal of meeting the personal needs of our participants and residents.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees processing, sorting, and allocation of all in-kind donations
  • Organize and ensure neat, clean and organized upkeep of the donation sorting and storage areas
  • Be able to coordinate donation drop-offs and pickups with outside entities
  • Oversee and coordinate the donation needs for all departments, and inventory of donated items
  • Maintain organized inventory of in-kind donations
  • Oversee individual and group volunteers in various donation sorting related tasks
  • Oversee participants of the Day Center as they assist with sorting and organizing donations
  • Partner with Day Center employees and Resident Managers on fulfillment of donation requests from storage areas
